I just got a Chinese Water Dragon from PETCO. This store seemed to keep their animals well cared for.

I put live Cilantro, Dill and Thyme in the aquarium along with the exact same processed bark bedding PETCO has in their display areas. I thought it might be a good idea to "give him what he is used to" environment wise. I currently have him housed in a very large slightly opaque, plastic rectangular storage container (45 Gallon) until my friend gives me a regular glass Aquarium she had a reptile in. No I do not have the plastic lid on top. I have a regular storm door screen over the top in case he figures out a way to jump that high, about 16 inches.

 I do not know the age of the Dragon. He is quite small in stature. I'd say a foot ling maybe and mostly tail. He is about as big around as a Nickel or Quarter at his widest point. I realize he needs time to adjust to a new setting but he doesn't seem to be acting as expected. Last night when his basking light went out I figured he would go to sleep. An hour later I went to check on him and found him perched up on his hind legs wide awake.

This morning i noticed him chewing at the side of the container. He is too small to do any damage to the container but am slightly worried that he may hurt himself.

 His behavior seems to be OK. He was agitated and skittish when first put in his new home and seemed fearful of me. I kept visiting and petting him and he seemed to get used to me. I can pick him up and  he will behave for a while and then suddenly will jump off and run away (he is really fast). I put him back in the container when he does this because he seems intent on repeating the behavior.

Am I prematurely concerned?
