It's been a while since I've updated this site.  I now have a number of blogs that keep me busy and I'm, unfortunately still in poor health due to my Crohn's disease.  I hope to add more reptile and amphibian related care sheets and articles over the next few months.  It's time to get this site to live up to it's potential.

I'm happy to see that some people have come by and have created blog posts.  It's quite easy to do. All you need to do is register for an account on the site and then on the left side of the page you'll see a user menu where you'll see buttons that will allow you to create a blog post or even submit a new article to the site. We're always happy to review new potential content for this site as long as it's related to reptiles and amphibians.

If you do create a blog post tell us about your reptiles and perhaps how you are caring for them. This isn't really the place to ask health questions. It's better to visit our links section and then visit some of the great reptile related forums that we've listed there.

I know that it's been a little while since I updated this site, but I'm here to let you know that I will be publishing no less than one new article each week from here on in.  My goal is actually to start publishing an article each day - but for this week anyway I have to finish some web design work that I'm doing for a client.  When I'm done that start watching for regular articles on the various aspects of reptile or amphibian care, more care sheet, product reviews etc.

My article was published this past August in Reptile USA annual 2007 - it's the one titled "Water Loving Wonders" page 74, and of course it's about Chinese Water Dragons.  The article contains three photos of my own dragons too.

As I usually do, I'd like to remind you that registered members may click on the "Submit News"  link in your user menu.  It's not really news that I want you to submit, rather I'd love for all of the members to become contributors of this site by submitting care related articles.

Registered members can also submit blog entries too.  We'd love to hear about your adventures with your pets.  If you'd like to write a blog entry simply click on "write a blog entry" in your user menu.

Guess what?

I received a letter earlier this week.  Well not a letter, an e-mail.  It was from a magazine editor.  Which Magazine you ask?  Why it was Reptiles magazine!

The editor wanted to know how much experience I had with Chinese Water Dragons. She also wanted to know if I might be interested in writing an article for their sister publication Reptiles USA.  (You know, the annual edition of Reptiles).

Judging from her initial questions I guess I should have asked how she heard of me, 'cause it doesn't seem that she was all that familiar with my experience.  Gee, and I thought I was pretty much a household name in the reptile world by now. ;-) Just kidding! Anyway, if they accept my article, which is due by April 1st! (yes I'm sure this ISN'T a joke, I think ...) I'll be in good company judging by the authors listed in the 2005 edition of Reptiles USA.

So, I guess I'll write up the article as soon as possible and send it off.  Keeping my fingers crossed that they do use the article in Reptiles USA.  At the very least if they don't use it for that edition perhaps they will use it for one of their articles in the monthly Reptiles Magazine.

I'm pretty sure I wrote for Reptiles Magazine in the past.  I can't remember now.  I haven't written any articles for magazines or herp societies for a long time, but I have written a lot of them.

Oh, I can include photographs with my article submission.  I have tons of pics of my dragons and plan to send them several, BUT if you have any really good pictures I'd be happy to look at them and perhaps send them along with my article.  The pictures need to be  sized at least 5x7 inches at 300 dpi – TIFF, JPEG or EPS.

What I would like you to send, if you wish to, is close up pictures of healthy looking dragons- perhaps and adult male, adult female, some babies, juvies too!  If your cage / vivarium is shown in the picture make sure it shows all the necessary items for good water dragon care - water area, UVB lighting, branches, good size enclosure etc. Remember this will be a water dragon care article- so healthy animals and fantastic enclosure set up pics only.

If they use the article I will be paid.  If I send any of the pictures that you guys send to me and your pics are used in the article I'm willing to send you a small fee for it's use.  I doubt it will be much, but that is something I can do if your photo is used if you'd like me to.   I won't get paid until the article is published ... so it could be a wait.  I'm not sure when Reptile USA comes out.  I'm thinking June or July but I could be wrong.

If you are planning on sending me a high quality photo of your pet please click on the Contact US link in the column to your left and send me a note.  I'll get back to you with my email address so that you can send the pics to me there.

In other news:

I haven't been writing on this blog as much as I should be (hey, either have you guys! :) ), but I have been busy behind the scenes working on updating and giving my other site Tricia's Chinese water dragon, reptile and amphibian care page a new look.  I'm stuck right now on the menu system I want to use on the updated site though.  I want something that won't take up a huge chunk of the page but that also lists my most important links.  So I'm slowly working on the coding for that.  Once the menu is done converting the site to the new look should be pretty easy.

Oh yes, and if you want to talk about your own wonderful pet please do register to become a member of this site and make a blog entry.  I'd love to see what you've written.  Come on- you know you want to. :)

I've been off work for the last 3.5 months due to illness.  Yes the lovely Crohn's rears it's ugly head again. :(  Now, while I have been busy behind the scenes on my own sites one thing I neglected was my duties as a moderator at HerpCenter.  One of the reasons is that when I answer email, or forum posts I really give it my all and create a very complete answer for the person needing help.  That takes a lot out of me when I'm not feeling so hot.  BUT I have returned as a moderator at HerpCenter and I'd love it if you would come visit this great forum.  There are a lot of very knowledgable herpers over there that can answer your questions about just about anything, Oh and everyone is SO friendly.  You'll love it!  So after you finish checking out my site, and pehaps my blogs, head on over to herpcenter and have a look.

'til next time, Tricia
